The Opportunity
We're seeking an experienced Senior DevOps Engineer to join a major cloud transformation programme, taking ownership of Infrastructure as Code delivery and the implementation of a modern Azure landing zone.
This is a hands-on technical role where you'll lead infrastructure delivery, shape technical design, and work closely with engineering and security teams to build a scalable, secure Azure platform. You'll be responsible for driving the day-to-day technical direction while collaborating with senior stakeholders to deliver a modern cloud-native environment.
What You'll Be Doing
Lead the design and delivery of Infrastructure as Code using Terraform.
Build and implement a secure Azure Landing Zone.
Design and deploy Azure networking including hub-and-spoke architecture, NSGs, routing, private DNS, Key Vault and Entra ID/RBAC.
Define and maintain Terraform module and repository standards.
Drive technical discussions, low-level design (LLD) and infrastructure best practices.
Prioritise technical backlogs and work closely with engineering teams to deliver key milestones.
Build Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines for Infrastructure as Code.
Develop multi-tenant Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) environments.
Support GitOps and service mesh implementations alongside internal specialists.
Evaluate infrastructure technologies and provide technical recommendations.
Produce architecture decision records (ADRs) and technical documentation.
Mentor engineers and promote DevOps and Infrastructure as Code best practices across the team.
Essential Skills
Extensive commercial experience as a Senior DevOps Engineer.
Strong Microsoft Azure infrastructure experience.
Expert knowledge of Terraform and Infrastructure as Code.
Experience designing Azure Landing Zones.
Strong understanding of Azure networking, including:
Hub-and-spoke networking
Network Security Groups (NSGs)
Route Tables
Private DNS
Azure Key Vault
Microsoft Entra ID and RBAC
Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) experience.
CI/CD pipeline development using Azure DevOps.
Experience with Git version control and repository management.
Strong understanding of cloud security and infrastructure architecture.
Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
Desirable Experience
GitOps using ArgoCD.
Istio Service Mesh and mTLS.
Helm.
Cloudflare.
Azure Firewall or other enterprise firewall technologies.
Kubernetes security, network policies and multi-tenant environments.
Policy-as-Code tools such as Kyverno.
Container security, image signing and supply chain security.
Experience working within Agile delivery teams.
What You'll Deliver
During the initial contract you'll help deliver a modern Azure platform by:
Building a production-ready Azure Landing Zone using Terraform.
Implementing scalable Azure networking and security architecture.
Delivering reusable Infrastructure as Code modules and standards.
Supporting the deployment of a multi-tenant AKS platform.
Enabling automated infrastructure deployments through Azure DevOps pipelines.
Working towards an end-to-end cloud platform capable of supporting secure application deployments across development, test and production environments.
