Join a company at the forefront of the renewable energy industry that is solving some of the most complex technical challenges in utility-scale battery storage. Rather than joining a traditional engineering team, you'll become the senior technical expert responsible for investigating and solving high-impact field issues that directly affect customers across North and South America. You'll work alongside product engineering, field service, commissioning, and quality teams while helping shape the future reliability of large-scale energy storage systems. This is an opportunity to make a visible impact, influence product improvements, and establish yourself as the go-to subject matter expert within a rapidly growing organization. Job Description
Our client is seeking a senior Fire Systems Engineer to serve as the technical escalation point for complex fire detection, fire alarm, and fire suppression issues across a fleet of utility-scale battery energy storage systems. This role focuses on troubleshooting production issues, performing root cause analysis, and driving long-term reliability improvements for systems already deployed in the field. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable investigating hardware, controls, networking, and fire protection systems, with the ability to diagnose problems from the physical device through the communication and control layers. Working closely with engineering, product, field service, commissioning, manufacturing, and quality teams, this individual will lead technical investigations, develop best practices, improve service procedures, and help reduce customer downtime across North and South America.
Required Skills:
• 8+ years supporting industrial fire alarm, fire detection, or fire suppression systems
• Experience troubleshooting fire protection systems in operational or production environments
• Strong background performing root cause analysis and technical investigations
• Experience with Fire Alarm Control Panels and Fire Suppression Systems
• Knowledge of smoke detection technologies
• Experience with industrial networking and controls systems
• Working knowledge of SCADA systems
• PLC programming and diagnostic experience
• Controls engineering experience
• Experience with BACnet and/or Modbus communication protocols
• Ability to troubleshoot across hardware, controls, networking, and field devices
• Strong customer-facing communication and technical leadership skills
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical discipline (or equivalent experience)
• Ability and willingness to travel to customer sites as needed
Bonus/Soft Skills:
• Siemens Fire Systems certification
• Experience reading and deploying Siemens SIBX files
• NICET certification or equivalent fire protection credentials
• Experience supporting Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
• Familiarity with NFPA 72, NFPA 855, NFPA 68, UL 9540A, and related standards
• Experience supporting data centers, utilities, industrial automation, or critical infrastructure
• Ability to analyze fleet-wide operational trends and identify systemic improvements
• Strong technical writing and documentation skills
• Ability to lead cross-functional teams through influence rather than direct authority
• Calm, methodical troubleshooting approach during critical customer incidents
Travel
Travel is expected throughout the Americas on an as-needed basis to support critical customer sites, field investigations, commissioning activities, and complex troubleshooting efforts. Based on the hiring manager's guidance, candidates should expect approximately 15-25% travel, with the first three to four weeks primarily spent onboarding remotely before occasional site visits begin. Travel frequency will vary depending on customer escalations and active field issues.
