About the job Job Title: Principal Battery Systems Engineer (Remote, U.S.) Role Overview Our client is an innovative aerospace company developing next-generation electric aircraft and is seeking a Principal Battery Systems Engineer to lead the architecture and development of its energy storage and high-voltage electrical systems. This is a highly visible principal-level individual contributor role where you'll serve as the technical authority for one of the aircraft's most critical systems. Working closely with propulsion, systems, structures, and certification teams, you'll define the long-term technical direction of the battery platform while collaborating with external partners and suppliers to bring next-generation technology from concept through validation. If you're passionate about electrification, safety-critical engineering, and solving some of aerospace's most challenging technical problems, this is an opportunity to make a lasting impact on the future of flight. Key Responsibilities Define the overall battery system architecture and high-voltage electrical distribution strategy for an advanced electric aircraft platform. Perform system sizing, energy modeling, and power analyses to ensure mission performance, efficiency, and operational reliability. Evaluate battery cell technologies and lead engineering trade studies to determine optimal battery pack architectures. Develop battery thermal management strategies while ensuring seamless integration with the aircraft's overall thermal management systems. Lead the engineering approach for battery safety, compliance, validation, and certification activities. Manage technical relationships with suppliers, development partners, and subcontractors supporting battery system development. Develop system requirements, technical specifications, interface definitions, and design documentation for prototype and production hardware. Participate in cross-functional design reviews, vehicle integration efforts, and overall aircraft architecture decisions. Identify technical risks, develop mitigation strategies, and drive engineering solutions through testing and validation. Education & Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline. 15+ years of experience developing battery systems or energy storage technologies within aerospace or another highly regulated, safety-critical industry. Demonstrated success serving as the technical owner or lead engineer for a vehicle program progressing through testing, qualification, certification, or production. Deep expertise in battery cell evaluation, battery pack architecture, Battery Management Systems (BMS), and high-voltage electrical system design. Working knowledge of aerospace battery safety standards and hardware certification requirements. Experience developing system-level energy and power budgets for complex electrified platforms. Proven ability to lead highly technical initiatives independently while collaborating across multidisciplinary engineering organizations. Preferred Experience Experience with electric propulsion systems or high-voltage power electronics. Previous experience supporting electric aircraft, advanced air mobility, electric vehicles, or other electrified transportation platforms. Familiarity with aerospace certification frameworks and regulated product development lifecycles. Experience managing engineering suppliers, development partners, or technical subcontractors. Master's degree or Ph.D. in an engineering discipline. Compensation, Benefits & Perks Salary Range: $250,000 - $300,000 Opportunity to own one of the most critical technical systems within a next-generation aerospace platform. Significant technical ownership and executive visibility. Collaborative engineering culture focused on innovation and technical excellence. Opportunity to influence the architecture of a groundbreaking electric aircraft platform from concept through certification. Why Us Lead the design of one of the most technically challenging systems in next-generation electric aviation. Shape the long-term architecture of a revolutionary aerospace platform with meaningful technical autonomy. Solve complex multidisciplinary engineering challenges alongside world-class propulsion, systems, and certification engineers. Influence critical design decisions from early concept through flight testing and certification. Help advance the future of sustainable aviation by developing technology with the potential to transform the aerospace industry. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis now and in the future. This position does not offer sponsorship.
