Manager, Application Development

Accountabilities: The Manager, Application Development will lead a team of developers while overseeing technical direction, project delivery, and application development initiatives. This role requires strong leadership, strategic thinking, and the ability to connect business needs with scalable technology solutions. Lead, mentor, and provide direction to application development teams supporting business and product initiatives. Define technical solutions, evaluate alternatives, and ensure alignment with business, user, and system requirements. Oversee the planning, design, coordination, and implementation of software applications. Manage relationships with internal stakeholders and lead requirements gathering activities. Provide technical leadership to development teams working on complex projects. Facilitate agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, reviews, retrospectives, demos, and release planning. Monitor team progress, communicate delivery updates, and track sprint and release performance. Define system responsibilities and document data flows between platforms and applications. Create and refine epics, user stories, and product backlog items to support prioritization and planning. Ensure development teams follow agile principles focused on collaboration, accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement. Support ongoing system enhancements, including platform and infrastructure improvements. Manage team operations, including workload planning, scheduling, and maintaining effective team capacity. Requirements: The ideal candidate is an experienced software development leader with strong technical expertise, people management skills, and a proven ability to deliver large-scale technology projects. This role requires excellent communication, analytical thinking, and the ability to collaborate across teams. Post-secondary education in Computer Science, Application Development, Information Technology, or a related field. Minimum 4 years of hands-on technical leadership and people management experience. Proven experience overseeing technical direction for large-scale development projects. Strong understanding of software development processes, application architecture, and technical solution design. Experience leading agile development teams and managing Scrum-based practices. Ability to analyze processes, identify challenges and trends, and develop effective solutions. Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across technical and business teams. 10 years of software development experience is considered an asset. Agile certification or project management certification is preferred. Experience with Ruby on Rails is an asset. Experience working with cloud-based infrastructure is preferred.
