About The Role The Senior Software Engineer at Kaiser Permanente plays a pivotal role in translating complex business requirements into robust software solutions that support the organization’s healthcare delivery objectives. This position involves leading the design, development, and deployment of integrated enterprise applications, utilizing a blend of development methodologies including DevOps, Waterfall, and Agile practices. The role requires a technical expert who can serve as a trusted advisor to project teams, ensuring that solutions are scalable, secure, and aligned with organizational standards. As a key member of the IT engineering team, the Senior Software Engineer will collaborate closely with cross-functional stakeholders, including business analysts, architects, and external vendors, to deliver innovative technology solutions that enhance patient care and operational efficiency. Qualifications To be successful in this role, candidates should possess a minimum of five (5) years of experience working on projects involving software development and implementation within the software development lifecycle (SDLC). A minimum of two (2) years in a technical leadership capacity, with or without direct reports, is required. A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, CIS, or a related field is preferred, along with at least eight (8) years of relevant work experience in software development or a related discipline. Equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of formal education. Candidates should demonstrate strong expertise in designing and developing enterprise applications, proficiency in programming languages, and experience with cloud-based solutions and DevOps practices. Responsibilities Translate business requirements and functional specifications into physical program designs, code modules, and stable application systems, ensuring alignment with organizational standards and strategic objectives. Lead and oversee business-specific projects by applying deep expertise in subject matter, developing work plans, and coordinating resources to meet deadlines and organizational goals. Practice self-leadership and foster learning within teams by building relationships with stakeholders, communicating effectively, and providing mentorship and feedback to junior team members. Leverage DevOps, Waterfall, and Agile methodologies to design, develop, and deliver resilient, secure, multi-channel, high-volume, high-transaction, cloud-based solutions. Serve as a technical expert, providing insights and recommendations for innovative solutions that meet both functional and design needs. Collaborate with architects and software consultants to ensure solutions are scalable, flexible, and maintainable, translating functional specifications into technical designs. Support systems incident response, troubleshooting, and resolution for complex issues, providing guidance to technical teams and stakeholders. Participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle, including development, validation, testing, and deployment, ensuring compliance with company policies and industry best practices. Develop, configure, and modify integrated business and enterprise applications, designing component-based applications using appropriate programming languages and tools. Lead the creation and validation of testing scenarios, including system integration testing (CIT) and user acceptance testing (UAT), to ensure software solutions meet all functional specifications. Build and maintain strong partnerships with internal teams, third-party vendors, and management to ensure project alignment, stakeholder buy-in, and successful delivery. Review and validate technical specifications and documentation, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and adherence to architectural standards. Identify interfaces, methods, parameters, and functions necessary to support technical solutions, serving as an escalation point for unresolved issues. Lead incident management efforts, providing technical support and troubleshooting for complex system issues, and guiding resolution strategies. Mentor, train, and develop technical team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
