We are a globally successful SaaS company, serving a diverse international customer base with teams ranging in size from 20 to 20,000 end users.
Overview
We’re looking for an experienced DevOps Engineer to join our Platform Engineering team on an initial 6 month contract, with the possibility of extension. We are open to either a daily rate contract or a fixed term employment contract, and the role is fully remote, though the ability to occasionally work from our Dublin office would be a plus.
You’ll work as part of the Platform Engineering team, receiving technical direction from our Technical Architect and responsible to the Director of Engineering, and you’ll collaborate closely with product squads right across the engineering organisation. Our stack is modern and pragmatic: Go microservices on AWS, MongoDB Atlas, GitHub Actions, Terraform and Docker.
This is a role with a clearly defined mission and a lasting legacy. Today our components are deployed, monitored and notified through a mix of mechanisms that have grown up over time, and we have already settled on our preferred methodology: one GitHub Actions based deployment toolkit, one observability platform and one notification channel. Your job is to implement that standard across every repository and end of life anything that sits outside it. You’ll have the freedom to suggest improvements where you see them, but this is first and foremost a delivery role. Get it right and every service we build for years to come will stand on it as we continue to scale the business and the product.
What You’ll Do
Implement our defined deployment methodology as a GitHub Actions based toolkit, using reusable workflows and composite actions, and roll it out across all of our repositories.
Migrate existing Jenkins pipelines and manual deployment processes onto the unified toolkit.
Consolidate logging and monitoring from Datadog, ELK and CloudWatch onto CloudWatch as the single observability platform.
Consolidate build and deployment notifications from Slack, email and Jira into Slack.
Migrate workloads from EC2 onto ECS or Lambda, depending on the component.
Implement and manage the supporting infrastructure with Terraform.
Enforce consistent governance through the toolkit so that branch protections, required checks, approvals and audit trails are the same across every repository.
End of life legacy mechanisms and component-level discrepancies as the standard lands, so that nothing continues to deploy, log or notify outside it.
Suggest improvements to the standard where your observations justify them, while treating delivery of the agreed methodology as the priority.
Work directly with our squads to bring components into line, raising small fixing PRs yourself where that is the quickest path.
Document the toolkit and embed it with the squads so that it outlives the contract
