📍 Sheffield or Birmingham (2-3 days/week onsite) | Contract
Join a Strategic Engineering team building the software backbone of a large-scale cyber data platform. You'll build backend services, APIs, and automation supporting data engineering and security governance — starting with API demand management via Kong and DevOps automation, then expanding into core platform engineering across the cyber domain.
What you'll do:
- Design, build, and maintain backend services, APIs, and automation (Go/Python)
- Build and operate cloud infrastructure on AWS/Azure using Terraform
- Develop CI/CD pipelines with pipeline-as-code practices and secure secrets handling
- Manage API onboarding/access via Kong for the cyber data lake
- Support production operations: monitoring, alerting, troubleshooting
What you'll bring:
- Strong programming skills in a major language (Java, C#/.NET, Python) and appetite to learn Go
- Solid engineering fundamentals: design patterns, SOLID, TDD/BDD, code review
- Hands-on AWS or Azure experience
- Terraform/IaC experience (modules, state, environment separation)
- Strong DevOps background: CI/CD, pipeline-as-code, agents/runners
- Comfort working in a security-focused, highly controlled environment
Nice to have: Kong/API gateway experience, big data ecosystem familiarity (Databricks/Spark), prior cyber/security engineering exposure.
