About The Role
We are seeking an experienced AWS Engineer to join our client’s team on a 6-month contract basis, primarily working remotely with a commitment of one day per week in Cirencester. The role focuses on platform resilience and hardening within a Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) framework. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of AWS cloud services, particularly in areas related to system resilience, backup strategies, and operational robustness. This position offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to high-availability solutions in the financial services or similarly high-demand sectors, ensuring systems are resilient, secure, and compliant with industry standards.
Qualifications
The successful candidate should have a proven track record in AWS engineering or SRE roles, with hands-on experience in cloud platform management. Essential qualifications include expertise in AWS storage services such as S3, EBS, EFS, and FSx, along with familiarity with AWS Backup or comparable enterprise SaaS backup solutions. Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of resilience, disaster recovery, and high-availability architectures. Additionally, experience with chaos testing, failure injection, and cyber resilience initiatives is highly desirable. A background in financial services or other sectors requiring high availability is considered an advantage.
Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities of this role include designing and implementing platform hardening strategies to enhance system resilience and security. The engineer will be responsible for managing AWS storage and backup services, ensuring data integrity, availability, and rapid recovery capabilities. They will actively participate in resilience testing activities such as chaos engineering and failure injection to identify vulnerabilities and improve operational robustness. The role also involves developing and maintaining disaster recovery plans, optimizing RTO/RPO metrics, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. Collaboration with cross-functional teams to implement best practices in high availability and disaster recovery is essential. Additionally, the engineer will evaluate and integrate third-party backup SaaS products to enhance backup and recovery processes.
