About this role

The Senior Embedded Linux Engineer / Architect will develop and maintain Board Support Packages (BSPs) and Linux drivers for Kistler's high-tech measurement systems used in automotive, industrial automation, research, and medical technology. They will shape the architecture of the embedded Linux platform, drive its long-term technical evolution, and bring up new ARM and x86 hardware platforms. The role involves integrating Linux kernels, bootloaders, and device trees, as well as managing security aspects like Secure Boot, software updates, and vulnerability management. The candidate will maintain the Yocto-based build environment, support product BSPs, and consult product teams on Yocto, BSP, and Linux topics.

(e.g. LabAmp, KiBox, Maximos) Due to the retirement of our esteemed colleague and to strengthen our embedded Linux platform, we are looking for a structured and self‑driven personality as Senior Embedded Linux Engineer / Architect “BSP/Yocto” (f/m/d) 80 – 100 % Your typical day You develop and maintain Board Support Packages (BSPs) and Linux drivers based on a shared firmware platform You shape the architecture of our embedded Linux platform and drive its long‑term technical evolution You bring up new ARM and x86 hardware platforms and integrate Linux kernels, bootloaders (e.g. U‑Boot) and device trees You take care of security‑related aspects such as Secure Boot, software updates and vulnerability management You maintain the Yocto‑based build environment, support the BSPs of our products and consult product teams on Yocto, BSP and Linux topics Your profile Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or a related technical field (ETH, university, UAS) Minimum 10 Years of experience as a Senior Embedded Linux Engineer or Architect in a hardware‑related environment, with proven ability to design embedded software architectures Strong knowledge in BSP and Linux driver development as well as kernel and bootloader integration; solid experience with Yocto and BitBake Experience in embedded device security (e.g. Secure Boot, software updates, vulnerability management) Strong communication skills in English and preferably in German – you consult product teams on Yocto, BSP and Linux topics and interact with development communities to resolve issues or upstream patches Nice to have: Extensive Linux and embedded systems background, spanning hardware co-design, upstream contributions (e.g., Linux kernel, U-Boot), user-space development, and modern CI/CD automation What you can expect from us Challenging tasks in the embedded Linux platform environment Work on long‑life high‑tech products with strong reusability focus Interdisciplinary collaboration across hardware, software, security and testing Modern build and development environments Support with internal and external training, both subject-specific and in other disciplines New Work environment (e.g., home office, flexible annual working hours), good public transport connections and parking spaces right outside, meal discounts, 40 hours/week, above-average social and insurance benefits, as well as further fringe benefits Ivan Urenda, Senior Talent Acquisition Business Partner, 052 224 12 21, looks forward to receiving your complete and compelling application (CV, diplomas/certificates, and reference letters; a cover letter is optional) via our online career tool.
