About the job
Are you a senior AWS Engineer who thrives on owning complex cloud environments and resolving high-impact production issues? At HGS, the Senior AWS Engineer is responsible for building, managing and optimising our AWS infrastructure, with a particular focus on Amazon Connect in live production environments. You will act as the technical escalation point for critical incidents, lead root cause analysis, and drive improvements across resilience, security, performance and cost efficiency. This is a hands-on engineering role. You will operate at senior level, making clear architectural decisions under delivery pressure, supporting public sector and regulated environments, and working closely with internal technology teams to ensure stable, secure and scalable cloud services. Alongside delivery, you will mentor engineers, strengthen documentation and runbooks, and introduce automation to reduce repeat issues and improve operational maturity.

What We Are Looking For
Are you confident owning and operating production AWS environments end to end?
Have you delivered Amazon Connect solutions in live environments, from straightforward implementations through to complex deployments?
Are you comfortable leading high-severity incident response and driving thorough root cause analysis?
Do you understand resilience, security and assurance requirements, particularly within public sector or regulated settings?
Are you able to explain complex technical decisions clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders?
Do you take a pragmatic approach, balancing availability, cost, performance and risk?

Requirements
Hands-on ownership of production AWS environments supporting business-critical workloads
Deep knowledge of core AWS services including EC2, VPC, IAM, S3, RDS or Aurora, Lambda, ECS or EKS and CloudWatch
Proven delivery and operational support of Amazon Connect in live production environments
Experience leading high-severity incident response, including structured root cause analysis and preventative action
Advanced troubleshooting across Linux and Windows, networking architecture and AWS security controls
Infrastructure as Code capability using Terraform and/or CloudFormation
CI/CD pipeline and automation experience, including tools such as Jenkins
Strong scripting capability for automation and tooling, for example Python or Bash
Practical understanding of identity management, network security, encryption, data protection and working within regulated or public sector assurance frameworks
AWS Professional level certification strongly preferred
